Whipped hot chocolate is like a hug in a mug! Whether you like it warm or iced, it’s pure indulgence. Only three ingredients needed for this fun, homemade treat!

What is whipped hot chocolate?
TikTok recipes are all the rage these days. One of the most popular creations to come out of it is whipped hot chocolate! You might remember the Dalgona Coffee craze – well, this is its sweet counterpart. Now, don’t get me wrong, I love a rich, indulgent coffee, but sometimes you just want to have a treat you can share with your kid(s).
So, picture this: a velvety, chocolatey concoction that’s as comforting as a warm hug on a chilly day. That’s what this whipped hot chocolate brings to the table. It’s the kind of drink that makes you want to cozy up under a blanket and watch your favorite movie.
Ingredients Substitute and Variations
Using cocoa powder
Unlike cocoa powder, hot chocolate mix already comes with a touch of sweetness added in. So if you’re using cocoa powder, start by mixing 1 tablespoon of cocoa powder with 3 tablespoons of powdered sugar. Once you’ve got that mixed up nicely, add in the whipping cream. Give it a taste! You want the mixture to be a tad on the sweet side since it’ll be blending into the milk later on in your cup.
If it’s not quite hitting the sweet spot, no worries! Just add powdered sugar, a tablespoon at a time, until it’s just right for your taste buds. Once you’ve got that perfect balance of sweetness, it’s time to start whipping up that cream.
Add Vanilla
Adding just a 1/4 teaspoon of high-quality vanilla extract can take your hot cocoa to the next level, giving it that delightful hint of vanilla flavor. It’s a simple touch that can make a world of difference in enhancing the overall taste of your cozy drink.
Regular Milk or Chocolate Milk
The recipe below uses chocolate milk, because there’s no such thing as too much chocolate in my book. But if you want to go for a more milky drink, you can switch the chocolate milk to regular milk, or even other milk variants such as almond or oat milk.
How to Make Hot Chocolate Whipped
We’re making a hot cocoa flavored whipped cream that becomes a dreamy topping on top of our glass.
Step 1: Start by putting your favorite hot chocolate mix and cold whipping cream into a small bowl.
Step 2: Using a mixer, whip until both ingredients are combined and makes a medium stiff peak
Step 3: If you want to have this hot, pour a hot chocolate milk or even just hot milk on a mug. Top with the whipped hot chocolate. If you want to have this cold, place some ice in a glass. Add your chocolate milk and top with the whipped hot chocolate.
Pro Tips
- I like to give my bowl and beaters a quick chill in the freezer for about 15 minutes beforehand. It’s the secret to achieving that perfect, fluffy texture in no time!
- Used whipping cream straight out of the fridge.
- Don’t over beat your whipping cream or it’ll turn into chocolate butter, which won’t be as smooth and frothy to drink.
