Prepare the apples
Slice the apples in half, remove the core, and slice them thinly (approximately 1-2 mm thick). You want the slices thin enough to bend without breaking.
Place the slices in a bowl of water with lemon juice to prevent browning. Microwave the bowl for about 1-2 minutes to soften the apple slices, making them pliable.
Assemble
Spread a thin layer of maple syrup or apricot jam on each strip. You can also sprinkle ground cinnamon for extra flavor.
Arrange the apple slices along the top edge of each puff pastry strip, overlapping slightly. The rounded edges of the apples should extend beyond the pastry to resemble petals.
Fold the bottom of the puff pastry strip upward, covering the bottom edge of the apple slices.
Carefully roll the strip from one end to the other to form a rose shape. Pinch the end to seal.
Bake and serve
Place the rolled roses into a greased muffin tin to help them hold their shape during baking. Bake in a preheated oven at 375°F (190°C) for 35-40 minutes or until the pastry is golden brown.
Let the pastries cool slightly, then dust them with powdered sugar for a pretty finish.
