Equipment

  • 1 Rolling Pin
  • 1 knife
  • 1 pastry brush

Ingredients

  • 1 sheet puff pastry thawed if frozen
  • 2 pcs medium apples
  • 1 tbsp lemon juice
  • 2 tbsp maple syrup or apricot jam optional
  • 1 tsp ground cinnamon optional
  • water for soaking apples
  • powdered sugar for dusting, optional

Instructions

Prepare the apples

  • Slice the apples in half, remove the core, and slice them thinly (approximately 1-2 mm thick). You want the slices thin enough to bend without breaking.
  • Place the slices in a bowl of water with lemon juice to prevent browning. Microwave the bowl for about 1-2 minutes to soften the apple slices, making them pliable.

Prepare the puff pastry

  • Roll out the puff pastry sheet on a lightly floured surface to smooth it out. Cut the pastry into strips about 2 inches (5 cm) wide.

Assemble

  • Spread a thin layer of maple syrup or apricot jam on each strip. You can also sprinkle ground cinnamon for extra flavor.
  • Arrange the apple slices along the top edge of each puff pastry strip, overlapping slightly. The rounded edges of the apples should extend beyond the pastry to resemble petals.
  • Fold the bottom of the puff pastry strip upward, covering the bottom edge of the apple slices.
  • Carefully roll the strip from one end to the other to form a rose shape. Pinch the end to seal.

Bake and serve

  • Place the rolled roses into a greased muffin tin to help them hold their shape during baking. Bake in a preheated oven at 375°F (190°C) for 35-40 minutes or until the pastry is golden brown.
  • Let the pastries cool slightly, then dust them with powdered sugar for a pretty finish.
